Will Alabama run the ball on Texas? Texas stopped every team it faced this year on the ground, except for one game, the Texas A&M game. 'Bama ran the ball against every team except Auburn. It's funny that in both of those games you could make the arguement each of the teams were looking ahead to their respective conference championship games. Be that as it may, Bama will run the ball, but, not in a dominant fashion.
Will Bama pass the ball on Texas? I don't believe Bama will have major success passing the ball. This will be the key to the game for me. Texas has one of the best pass defenses in the country, and has faced many more sophisticated passing offenses than this Bama pass offense represents.
Will Texas run the ball? Probably not. But, I don't think they need to run the ball much. Just enough to keep the rush off of QB Colt McCoy. Which leads to the final matchup question:
Will Texas pass the ball on Alabama? I don't believe McCoy will have much success passing the ball vs. Bama. I do believe McCoy will have more success at his position than McElroy will have at his, and this will be my key to the game.
I have to believe it's obvious both teams will come to play, so incentive should be a push.
These are two very good defenses, despite what happened to Texas in the A&M game. Alabama does have the better defense, but, not by as much as I'd like in a bowl matchup. That means I go to the QB matchup, and in my opinion, Texas has the bigger advantage at that position. McElroy had trouble in the Miss., So.Caro., Tennessee, and LSU games passing the ball. I would call Texas' defense the equal of any of those four SEC defenses. That's why I think McElroy will have limited success tonight. He better have limited success because my recommendation is based on Texas containing McElroy, and Texas' Colt McCoy making more big QB plays.
Texas in a 2-unit recommendation over Alabama. These two defenses are border-line spectacular. Sometimes the obvious play is the correct play. The under in a 2-unit recommendation.
It's been a lot of fun, as usual, this year. And, like every year in the past, I'm sad to see it end.
